London, UK – September 25, 2024 – BGFG, a leader in digital media and publishing, is excited to announce the acquisition of six iconic publications: Diabetes Self-Management, Outdoor Photographer, Imaging Resource, The Writer, BirdWatching, and JazzTimes. This strategic acquisition marks a significant expansion of BGFG’s portfolio, with plans to rejuvenate these beloved brands and reintroduce them to a new generation of readers across the United States and beyond in 2024/25.

These publications have long histories of engaging dedicated audiences in their respective fields:

  • Diabetes Self-Management has been a trusted source of information for millions living with diabetes since 1983, providing cutting-edge insights on managing the condition through lifestyle and medical advancements.
  • Outdoor Photographer, established in 1985, became a staple for photography enthusiasts, known for its breathtaking imagery and expert advice on capturing the natural world.
  • Imaging Resource was a pioneer in the digital photography space, providing in-depth reviews and industry news since 1998.
  • The Writer has inspired and informed aspiring and professional writers alike since 1887, making it one of the oldest continuously published magazines in the U.S.
  • BirdWatching has catered to nature enthusiasts since 1987, offering extensive resources on bird species, identification tips, and conservation news.
  • JazzTimes, founded in 1970, is revered as one of the most influential publications in the jazz community, providing in-depth coverage of the genre’s past, present, and future.

William Blears, CSO of BGFG, expressed his enthusiasm for the acquisition: “These publications are not just brands; they are cornerstones of their respective communities. We are honoured to have the opportunity to breathe new life into these titles. We are committed to respecting their legacies while also innovating and expanding their reach to engage today’s audiences.”

Future Plans

BGFG plans to relaunch in both print and digital format, and are currently opening lines of communication with the previous teams that were involved in each of the publications. We appreciate the size of the task, and it’s not going to be easy. These brands have suffered in recent years and our first phase is to simply get the brands live and talk to anyone involved, so we can make better decisions on the future of each.

This acquisition and the subsequent relaunches are part of BGFG’s broader strategy to revitalise and expand the reach of niche publications that have passionate and dedicated followings. By investing in these brands, BGFG is not only preserving their storied histories but also ensuring they thrive in the digital age.
